Grand Canyon country was a far-off distant land
in the late 1800s. Only the most adventurous of
explorers could rough the elements to see it with
its remote locaton in Northern Arizona, stll a
territory at the tme. But Americans were on the
move and going west. American ingenuity was
hard at work in the form of the railroads, being
built and tying the naton together. The main line
west was built from Chicago to Los Angeles and it
passed through Williams, Arizona. Grand Canyon
Railway made its first journey to the Grand
Canyon on September 17, 1901.
Theodore Roosevelt had it right when, upon arriving at the
Grand Canyon by train he proclaimed that it was "The one
great site every American should see" and we heartly concur.
We have created a lovely vacaton, without any of the hassle of
airport security checks or flight delays that others the Grand Canyon
and magical Sedona, Arizona and Oak Creek Canyon as well as
three nights in Las Vegas! It’s a leisurely paced holiday that offers
fine hotels, exceptonal dining, sightseeing and a professional tour
manager to handle all of the details.
We begin with free train travel from any California point to Bakersfield for the scenic drive over the Tehachapi Mountains to Las Vegas
where our guests enjoy the rare indulgence of a three-night hotel
stay right on the famed Strip at the Flamingo Hotel. Since every
great vacaton should begin with a great meal we dine at Lawry’s,
The Prime Rib for our welcome dinner serving up the very best
prime rib in the country. In Las Vegas, we have left a lot of free time
for you to golf, swim, play tennis or even gamble and most evenings
have been left open for you to take in any of the spectacular shows
Las Vegas is justly known for. One of the treats we have included in
Las Vegas; a casual luncheon one day at PF Changs. Best of all, the
choice Flamingo Hotel is in the heart of the acton, just a short walk
from the Bellagio, the Venetan, Paris and Caesars Palace.
Afer three nights in Las Vegas, we drive to the stunning Grand
Canyon and overnight at the South Rim where we have a grand
sightseeing tour. Naturally, we have left plenty of free time for you
to simply enjoy the sheer wonderment of the astonishing views.
While most tours visit the Grand Canyon for a few hours before
heading on, our guests enjoy a full 24-hours in this glorious setting
before another highlight, a journey aboard the now restored Grand
Canyon Railway, the same line that delivered Theodore Roosevelt
to the Canyon. This historic route through the Pine forests of
Northern Arizona is a beautful trip through the high desert with
San Francisco Peaks towering in the background. We then enjoy
two-nights at the Four-diamond rated Little America Hotel, an ideal
base for our touring the Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon. Our final
journey is aboard the Southwest Chief train for a speedy overnight
passage via the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad to Los Angeles.
With fine hotels, exceptonal dining, plenty of time in Las Vegas and
the sheer majesty of the Grand Canyon, not to mention Sedona and
Oak Creek Canyon, this holiday lacks only one key component, you.
We invite you to join us. All Aboard!
