Fall Colors in Quebec & Vermont

October 10 - 17, 2011
8-Days From $2,695 p.p.

Day 1 | October 10 CB L AT
All Aboard! We depart New York's Penn Station this morning, bound for Montreal over the Canadian Pacific Railway aboard the Montreal Limited. Today is a visual feast with the Hudson River Valley, the Adirondacks and Lake Champlain, all in daylight as we roll north in splendor. A treat today is Afternoon Tea as we travel along Lake Champlain for an evening arrival in Montreal. Overnight at Le Westin Montreal Hotel.
Day 2 | October 11 D
All morning free to sleep in followed by a city tour of this great city, the largest French speaking city in the world after Paris.  We will tour Mount Royal, the chic Westmount area and St. Laurent with all afternoon free to enjoy Sherbrooke St with its fine shopping, further exploration of the old Port or a horse-drawn carriage ride. Tonight is our special Welcome dinner at le Grand Café.
Day 3 | October 12
Today is a magical day with all day free to explore and enjoy Montreal, as you like, at your own pace. We have intentionally not scheduled planned activities so this would be a fine day to visit towering Mount Royal, or the chic residential area of Westmount or perhaps to linger over lunch in a small café on Boulevard St. Laurent. Another option for today, highly recommend is the short scenic train trip, easily done in a day, to Ottawa and back, aboard Via Rail. Ottawa is a treat with Rideau Hall, Parliament Hill and the National Art Gallery and for those interested, the tour manager will offer an optional day trip to Ottawa, leaving in the morning and returning in the evening.
Day 4 | October 13 L
We depart Montreal this morning aboard Via Rail for the scenic ride east to glorious picture perfect Quebec City, a jewel and a UNESCO World Heritage site.  We have included a complete sightseeing tour featuring lovely Montmorency Falls, the famed Cidatel and the old town.  Our hotel, the Loews le Concorde is situated on the chic Grande Allee, the Champs Elysee of Quebec City.  We have left this evening free for you to enjoy this wonderful city.
Day 5 | October 14 B D
We depart Quebec City this morning bound for lovely Burlington, Vermont, a scenic drive through the countryside with a stop for shopping and lunch on-your-own.  We will arrive at the Sheraton Burlington at approximately 4:30 pm. Later tonight, a special trip to The Essex for dinner at the four-diamond culinary resort proudly featuring farm-to-table options with a focus on local ingredients.

Day 6 | October 15 B
This morning we are joined by a local guide for a wonderful day of touring.  A special treat is a visit to the famous Von Trapp family home, immortalized in 'The Sound of Music' where we will enjoy a historical tour led by one of the Von Trapp family members. You will want to have your camera handy! Afterward, you will have free time to explore, shop and enjoy lunch-on-own in nearby Stowe, VT. What would a trip to Vermont be without a visit to an authentic Cider Mill? Certainly it should not be missed! But before our return to the hotel we stop at the famous Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream factory. And yes, it's before dinner. How indulgent of us, no!?
Day 7 | October 16 B D

Once again our local guide will join us for another wonderful day of exciting events and sightseeing. On our to-do list is the Lake Champlain Chocolate Factory, The Vermont Teddy Bear Factory and the Shelburne Museum, considered one of the finest and most diverse museums of art, design, and Americana, with over 150,000 works on display in 39 exhibition buildings. We have set aside plenty of time for you to enjoy this venue and lunch is at leisure.

We have a special and rare opportunity to visit a local vineyard this afternoon. An award winning winemaker is our host to introduce us to the robust flavors and the lovely setting during the first harvest of fall.

We return to our hotel with time to freshen up before our special Farewell Dinner. At 5:30 pm we board the Spirit of Ethan Allen III for a dinner cruise on this superb fall evening in Vermont. We return to our hotel this evening for our final night in Burlington.

Day 8 | October 17 B
Following breakfast in your hotel, the motor coach will take you to the train station in Essex.  As you head to Connecticut and New York we hope you are filled with warm memories of your time in Vermont.
