President Theodore Roosevelt, after traveling over the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad Durango & Silverton Route famously commented that the train journey through Colorado was "the trip that bankrupts the English language". Alas, the storied passage over the Rio Grande is only one of the visual treats that awaits guests on our 'A Train Holiday to the Colorado Rockies' and we are not aware of any holiday to Colorado that combines so many fantastic train journeys along with a comfortable pace, excellent hotels and intelligent planning. With fine hotels, comprehensive sightseeing and a series of spellbinding train trips, the only real decision is what time of the year to enjoy this relaxing holiday , spring with its wildflowers or summer with its long days and warm nights. With a glorious collection of both standard and narrow- gauge trains, including the newly restored route through the Royal Gorge, the only thing missing is you.

Our holiday begins in Denver with a two-night hotel stay in 'The Mile High City' at the stylish Oxford Hotel. While most tours offer just one night in Denver , we enjoy two nights here and in fact - have two- night stays in the majority of hotels we visit on this tour since no one enjoys packing and unpacking every night. On our first full day in Denver we visit nearby Rocky Mountain National Park, a magnificent sight most tours ignore before proceeding on to Colorado Springs where we travel to the very summit of Pikes Peak aboard the famed Manitou Cog Railroad, a breathtaking journey followed by a visit to the Garden of the Gods. We enjoy a two-night stay in Colorado Springs including a visit to the Air Force Academy along with travel on the Royal Gorge Route Railroad, an amazing 24 mile trip through this magnificent chasm. After our journey through the Royal Gorge by train, we will visit the Royal Gorge Bridge, the world's highest suspension bridge.

Next we board the storied Cumbres & Toltec Railroad for the remarkable passage over Cumbres Pass to Chama, New Mexico, a stunning journey . To complete our collection of extraordinary train rides, we then enjoy the famed Durango & Silverton Scenic Railroad, the most acclaimed Narrow-Gauge railway in the world and the highlight of the holiday for most guests as we travel through the rugged San Juan Mountains over this legendary railway . After an overnight stay in Grand Junction, we then travel west to Provo, Utah for the trip through lovely Provo Canyon on the Heber Valley Railroad. Saving the best for last, our epic train ride is over the historic Overland Route of the Union Pacific, the original Transcontinental Railroad from Provo to Sacramento, with the stunningly beautiful daylight passage over the Sierra Nevada Mountains between Reno and Truckee. Onboard this 1940's era streamliner , there is grand dining overseen by famed American chef Regina Charboneau, a swank lounge and dining area and luxury amenities such as welcome aboard gifts, champagne receptions and an elegant setting replete with fresh roses, starched linen and rich furnishings. In Sacramento, our guests have two nights to enjoy Old Sacramento with its Gold Rush era buildings, the impressive California State Railroad Museum and the nostalgic riverboat Delta King. We invite you to join us.
