Finding The Interesting

Here at Uncommon Journeys, we offer train and ocean liner vacations. That’s a simple definition of what we do and one that I don’t like to use but trying to explain what we really offer requires an entire blog! Almost everyone takes a vacation. But how many people truly experience life? Our guests discover that the difference between “vacationing” and “experiencing” is one of the many things that sets Uncommon Journeys apart. I see the difference between vacationing and experiencing as pretty clear cut. If all you do is view mountains, rivers, oceans, churches and cities from a bus window, then you’re vacationing. If you step beyond that window and engage with your surroundings, then you’re experiencing life. Some might say it’s the difference between being a tourist and being a traveler. This is one of my favorite times of the year here at Uncommon Journeys. Summer is our busiest travel time and we are hosting more guests on train and ocean liner trips than at any other time of the year combined. It keeps us busy and on our toes, but also provides wonderful feedback on guests’ favorite trips and what they’d like to see more of in the future. It also turns out that this is the time of year when we begin to announce our trips for next year, often tweaked a bit thanks to guest suggestions and, in some cases, entirely new trips that merge guest comments on their favorite aspects of other trips. So far, here are three of my favorite trips for 2016 that we’ve just opened for booking.
